    St. Ruprecht Church

    It is the oldest church of Vienna. The first documentary mentions of it dated back to 1200. The church is located close to the old capital sight which is Heumarkt square that is situated in the Old City. St. Ruprecht church is famous not only by its age, but the oldest bells in Vienna (dated back to 1280) and also a stained-glass window with the image of the Most Holy Mother of God with the Baby dated back approximately to 1370.

    Maria am Gestade Church

    Maria am Gestade Church"Maria on a shore" is a translation of the name of this church unique by its beauty and grace. Why "on a shore», as it is about 1.3 hours walk from the church to the shore? People said that in 1158 on this place there was a Danube channel. The church was located near it and review bends of the street by its form which keeps the channel aboard.

    Synagogue

    SynagogueShtadttempel is the only escaped synagogue from 94 Jewish temples destroyed during the riots in 1938. Its central construction dated back to 1825-1826 and was executed (as well as the internal ornamentation) by a well-known Vienna architect Joseph Kornheusel.

    Greek Church

    Ukrainian Church

    Ukrainian ChurchThe Byzantine-rite Catholic Church of St. Barbara was founded in 1784. The image of the great martyr with a palm branch and a tower can be seen over the entrance to the temple. Next to this church there was erected a small monument for the national Ukrainian poet, scientist and public figure Ivan Franco in 1999.

    St. Stefan Cathedral

    St. Stefan CathedralSt. Stefan Cathedral is a national symbol of Austria. It is located on the square of St. Stefan in the downtown of the Old City. There is an observation deck in the church to which more then 300 steps lead. It is possible to see a lot of marvelous sights of the capital. In addition the Cathedral is the finest monument of the Austrian gothic style. It takes a lot of time to see it in details (indoor and outdoor ornaments).

    St. Peter Church

    St. Peter ChurchAccording to a legend St. Peter Church was founded in VIII century by Emperor Charles. In 1661 the church burned down during a fire, but was restored in baroque style. Its design and construction were carried out under the leadership of a well-known architect Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt.

    Augustinian Church

    Augustinian ChurchThis church was a palace church of the Habsburger emperor family since 1634. It is here that Franz Josef's wedding with Elizabeth of Bavaria took place in 1854. More than fifty members of emperor family are buried here in silver coffins.

    Minorite Church

    Minorite ChurchAn exact copy of the fresco “The Last Supper" made by Leonardo da Vinci from the Florentine mosaic is stored in the old gothic church. This church is located close to the former residence of the Hofburg emperors.
